More About Me

Hey there! I'm Deeshan Sharma,

a backend and real-time systems engineer. I build the parts of a product where things have to happen live — chat, calling, media pipelines, event-driven services — and I have been shipping them to production for five years.

I currently lead a backend team, so the work is as much about architecture decisions, code review and clean handover as it is about writing the code myself.

Single-handed Projects

Most of what I build is Node.js and TypeScript — NestJS and Express, MongoDB and Postgres, RabbitMQ when work needs to happen out of band, AWS underneath. When a product needs the rest of itself, I write the Next.js or React front end and the React Native app too; I have shipped mobile apps to both stores.

I ask questions before I write code, and I would rather scope something honestly than underestimate it. If a problem is real-time, event-driven, or works today but might not at ten times the traffic, that is the kind I am best at.

My Projects

Full Stack

Accros: Real Time Chat App

An in-house communication platform — servers, channels, presence, file sharing, and one-to-one audio and video built directly on the browser's WebRTC API with Socket.io signalling and no third-party SDK. Built single-handedly over 18 months and 475 commits to replace a paid Slack subscription.

Backend

HireEQ: AI Hiring Platform

An AI video-screening platform for hiring. Recorded interview answers are pulled from S3, transcoded and frame-sampled with FFmpeg, transcribed with Whisper, scored against a facial-analysis service, and turned into a recruiter report and an Excel export. I built the NestJS backend and the whole asynchronous pipeline.

Backend

DIY: Research Data Platform

A market-research data platform for creative testing: survey authoring, cohort management, a metrics dashboard and spreadsheet export. Four NestJS services on Prisma over a 190-model MySQL schema, alongside two older Express generations and an ETL that keeps a MongoDB analytics store in step with the relational system of record.

Full Stack

HRMS Portal

The internal HR platform for a whole company: leave with real accrual arithmetic, biometric timesheets parsed from the door system, an approvals queue, a shared calendar, templated email and spreadsheet export. Two repos, 312 commits, sole author, still receiving fixes three years on.

Backend

Life OS: AI-Native Personal Ops

A single-user universal inbox running on one machine at home. Anything I send it — a voice note, a photo of a receipt, a forwarded bank email — is transcribed, classified, extracted into typed records and filed. Local models, no cloud. 66 spec files and 561 test cases against 149 source files.
